Can you claim against another driver’s insurance if they hit you?

Yes. If another driver is at fault, you have two routes. You can claim directly against their insurer (a third-party claim) — useful because you may avoid paying your own excess and protect your no-claims discount, since it’s not your policy paying out. Or you can claim through your own insurer, who will then recover the costs from the at-fault driver’s insurer; with a non-fault claim handled this way you can often get your excess back once they recover. You’ll need the other driver’s details (name, registration, insurer). If they’re uninsured or untraced, you can still claim — through your own comprehensive policy or via the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).

Get the other driver’s reg and insurer at the scene if you possibly can. Claiming against their insurer directly saved me my excess and my no-claims.

Not sure about a claim before you submit it?

ClaimPilot checks your UK insurance claim the way an assessor would — flagging the gaps and wording that could get it delayed or refused — so you can fix them before you submit.
