Does a rejected or withdrawn insurance claim count against you?

Often, yes — and this surprises people. When you get a quote, insurers usually ask about "claims and incidents," not just paid-out claims. That means a claim that was declined, withdrawn, or settled with no payout can still need to be declared and can still affect your premium, because it’s logged on the insurance database (CUE) as an incident. The safest approach is always to declare any claim or incident the insurer asks about, regardless of the outcome — non-disclosure is one of the top reasons policies get voided, which is far worse than a slightly higher premium. If a claim was wrongly rejected, you can challenge it (complaint, then the free Financial Ombudsman Service) — but you should still disclose that it happened.

Declare it even if nothing was paid. "I didn’t get a payout so it doesn’t count" is exactly the assumption that voids policies. When in doubt, disclose.
